What is a Gut Health Test?

A gut health test is a non-invasive stool analysis that looks at the types and proportions of bacteria and other microorganisms living in your digestive system. This can provide insights into gut diversity, microbial balance, and digestive health patterns.

Gut Health Testing Option: AMiLi Gut Microbiome Test

The AMILI Gut Microbiome Test is a stool test developed in Singapore that helps check the types and levels of bacteria living in your gut. It uses advanced technology to analyse your sample and compares your results to data from people in Southeast Asia, providing a clearer picture of your gut health.

Who Can Take The AMiLi Gut Microbiome Stool Test?

The AMiLi Gut Microbiome Stool Test is suitable for most individuals who want to learn more about their gut health, whether they’re experiencing digestive symptoms or simply taking a proactive approach to wellness.

Pregnant women and individuals currently taking antibiotics can still take the test, but it’s important to note that their gut microbiome may be temporarily affected. In these cases, test results may differ from their usual baseline and could change after pregnancy or once antibiotic treatment is completed.

If you’re unsure whether now is the best time to take the test, our clinic team can help you decide.

What Comes in an AMiLi Gut Microbiome Stool Test Kit?

Each AMILI kit provided by G&L Surgical Clinic contains:

What Kind Of Insights Will I Receive From My Results?

Your AMILI Gut Microbiome Test results provide a personalised breakdown of your gut health across several key areas including:

Your Gut Microbiome Age is estimated based on the types of bacteria found in your gut. It offers insight into how your gut health aligns with your biological age, which may differ from your actual age.

This section examines gut microbial processes linked to mental performance. It highlights how your microbiome may be influencing sleep, mood, focus, and cognitive function.

Focuses on microbes that support immune responses and organ health, including your heart, liver, and pancreas. A balanced gut can play a role in better metabolic function and disease prevention.

Tracks how your microbiome is processing food, with insights into how well your body is absorbing nutrients. It can highlight possible microbial imbalances linked to bloating, gas, or discomfort.

Assesses how your gut microbiome compares with patterns found in people with certain health conditions. This includes obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and colorectal cancer. It gives a glimpse into potential long-term risks.

This measures the variety of bacteria in your gut. A higher diversity is generally linked with better gut resilience and overall health.

Receive a list of foods tailored to your microbiome to encourage growth of beneficial bacteria and support better gut health.

Suggestions for everyday changes in stress management, sleep, exercise, and eating habits — all aimed at supporting a healthier microbiome.

Based on your gut profile, specific AMILI Probiotic strains may be recommended to help restore balance and address concerns like digestion, immunity, or metabolic support.

Understanding Your Gut Microbiome

The gut microbiome refers to the community of microorganisms — including bacteria, fungi, and viruses — that live in the digestive tract. These microbes assist in digestion, nutrient absorption, and maintaining the intestinal lining. An imbalance of the microbiome may be associated with gastrointestinal discomfort or chronic digestive symptoms.

How Does the Gut Microbiome Influence Your Health?

Your gut microbiome, made up of trillions of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms, plays a central role in keeping your body functioning well. These microbes help break down food, support the absorption of nutrients, and protect against harmful bacteria. Research has shown that an imbalanced gut microbiome may be linked to digestive issues like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and even obesity.

Beyond digestion, the gut also influences your immune system, metabolism, and mental wellbeing, as gut bacteria are involved in producing neurotransmitters like serotonin. Understanding and maintaining a healthy gut microbiome is increasingly seen as a key part of supporting overall health.

Signs Your Gut Might Be Out of Balance

An imbalanced gut microbiome can affect more than just digestion. Here are some common signs that may suggest your gut health needs attention:

  • Frequent bloating or gas – Especially after meals or certain foods
  • Irregular bowel movements – Such as ongoing diarrhoea, constipation, or alternating patterns
  • Stomach discomfort – Including cramps, abdominal pain, or a “heavy” feeling
  • Unexplained fatigue – Feeling tired even with adequate rest
  • Skin issues – Acne, eczema, or rashes linked to internal inflammation
  • Food intolerances – Difficulty digesting certain foods over time
  • Mood changes – Anxiety, low mood, or brain fog potentially tied to the gut-brain connection
  • Poor immunity – Getting sick frequently or slower recovery from illnesses

If you notice these symptoms persisting without a clear cause, a gut microbiome test may help uncover potential imbalances and guide your next steps.

Why Get Your Gut Health Tested in Singapore?

Gut microbiome testing offers a non-invasive way to better understand what’s happening inside your digestive system, especially if you’re experiencing ongoing symptoms without a clear cause. This can be particularly helpful for individuals who:

  • Experience frequent bloating or gas
  • Have diarrhoea or constipation that doesn’t resolve
  • Notice irregular or unpredictable bowel movements
  • Feel persistently tired without another medical explanation

A gut health test helps by providing a detailed report on your microbiome composition, allowing you and your doctor to explore whether microbial imbalances could be contributing to your symptoms. This information may guide nutrition and lifestyle changes to restore a healthier balance of gut bacteria.

In some cases, traditional investigations like a colonoscopy may not detect functional or microbial issues. Stool testing can serve as a useful complementary tool to identify underlying microbiome patterns and support a more targeted care plan using probiotics, prebiotics, or dietary adjustments.

Gut Health Supplement: AMiLi Probiotics

Based on your results, you might be advised to consider AMiLi Probiotics, a gut health supplement designed to boost your gut health. With five different strains available, a specific strain will be recommended based on your individual needs.

These probiotics are ideally taken over a minimum of three months to see improvements. Some minor side effects such as flatulence or bloating may occur within the first week due to the sudden replenishment of gut bacteria. These probiotics are also recommended to be taken in conjunction with antibiotics to minimise the negative effects of antibiotics on the gut.

However, it’s recommended to seek advice from a healthcare provider before starting the probiotics if you’re pregnant or on gastro or anti-reflux medications.

How Long Does It Take to Repopulate the Gut With Good Bacteria?

Fortunately, the gut is very good at bouncing back from disruptions. Studies have shown that it only takes a few days for the gut to begin repopulating with good bacteria after a microbial disturbance. However, it can take weeks or even months to fully restore the microbiome’s balance. Therefore, it is important to be patient and give your gut time to recover after a disruption. With a bit of time and care, your gut will be back to its happy, healthy self in no time.

For best results, patients should consult with a doctor or a qualified probiotic specialist to develop a tailored plan for replenishing their gut flora.

Restoring the gut microbiome to its full strength and diversity with patience and care is possible.
