Your Coverage with HSBC Life Shield

Understand your coverage with a HSBC Life Shield plan and the benefits you can experience if you choose to have your treatment with Dr Ganesh, a HSBC Life panel doctor. For more information, visit the HSBC Life website. Alternatively, reach out to our team and we will be happy to assist you.

In-patient Treatment: HSBC Life Shield offers coverage for medical costs incurred during your stay at a hospital for medical treatments or surgeries.

Out-patient Treatment: These are treatments that don’t require you to be admitted to a hospital, such as visits to a General Practitioner or a specialist for consultations.

Pre- and Post-hospitalisation Treatment: With HSBC Life Shield, you’re protected up to 180 days before your admission to a hospital and 365 days after your discharge. This includes consultations, medications, and necessary treatments related to the condition for which you were hospitalised.

  • Pre-existing conditions known to the policyholder before signing up.
  • Treatments related to intentional, self-inflicted injuries.
  • Abuse or misuse of drugs.
  • Conditions related to sexually transmitted diseases, AIDS, or HIV.
  • Cosmetic or plastic surgeries unless necessitated by an accident.
  • Other exclusions as detailed in the General Provisions of the policy.

While HSBC Life Shield offers comprehensive coverage, there is a billable sum of minimum 5% co-payment. This means you’re required to bear at least 5% of the billable amount, ensuring policyholders play a part in managing their healthcare costs and minimising potential over-consumption.

In-patient: With HSBC Life Shield, if you’re being treated by the HSBC Life Panel of Specialists or Extended Panel, a Letter of Guarantee (LOG) can be issued which ensures a cashless hospitalisation process. This means you don’t need to pay upfront; HSBC will directly settle the bills with the hospital.

Out-patient & Pre-post Hospitalisation Consultations: In scenarios like visits to a clinic, General Practitioner, or specialist consultations before or after hospitalisation, you’ll typically need to pay upfront. Later, you can claim reimbursement from HSBC Life Shield for the covered amount. It’s crucial to keep all bills and receipts to facilitate this reimbursement process.

Letter of Guarantee

A Letter of Guarantee (LOG) is a written assurance provided by an insurance company to a medical institution, pledging to cover specific medical costs for a policyholder’s treatment or hospitalisation. It offers peace of mind to both the patient and the hospital, as it ensures that the bills will be settled directly by the insurer, facilitating a cashless experience for the patient.

The LOG outlines the maximum amount that the insurer is committed to cover, reducing the financial burden on the patient at the point of admission.

An enhanced Letter of Guarantee allows patients to receive cashless services of up to $150,000 and a co-payment sum capped at $3000 when treated by our surgeons.

Follow these steps:

  • Schedule a consultation at G&L Surgical clinic.
  • Engage in financial counselling with our staff to grasp the charges associated with your procedure and discuss the available HSBC Life insurance policies.
  • Our team will guide you in liaising with HSBC Life to facilitate the LOG issuance.
  • Await HSBC Life’s confirmation concerning the LOG’s issuance.
  • Once the LOG is received by G&L Surgical, you can move forward with your treatment.

The LOG will usually be issued to the hospital 2-3 days after the request is made, provided all criteria are met.
