Pre / Post-Gastroscopy Care In A Nutshell
Pre-Gastroscopy Care
- A gastroscopy (or upper-GI endoscopy) is a medical procedure to visualise the inside of the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum.
- You will be required to fast at least 6 hours before your procedure.
- Where possible, you will be advised to stop taking any medications that can thin your blood, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, for at least a few days before your procedure.
Post-Gastroscopy Care
- It is normal to experience mild discomfort and soreness in the throat or bloating of the stomach following the procedure.
- Downtime: Minimal – You may resume normal activities after 1-2 days. You will be discharged on the same day following the procedure.
- A follow-up session will be arranged to explain the results of your investigation.
